DIGITAL ECONOMY: EMBRACING THE NEW NORMAL

Updated: May 28, 2020

Digital Economy
How to embrace digital economy as the new normal?

Digital technology is not actually new to the world since the information and communications technology (ICT) - based digital age started in 1971. But, how is it affecting us so far? Well, this Covid-19 pandemic revealed it just right before our eyes.

Indeed, digital or online transactions are already present even before this pandemic. We have e-commerce, mobile banking, and other online services by various companies. But, who would have thought that even jobs and other workforce tasks can be done online? Even classes are being held digitally nowadays. Learning, working, and business activities do not require physical presence anymore. Everything can be done from anywhere we want for as long as we have the device and the internet.

Digital economy makes the world go round; especially today that it is starting to become the new normal as industries should continue doing business as usual despite the pandemic threat. Companies are left with no choice but to go online. Apparently, it will become the trend even after the virus is gone or controlled. The challenge here is, how are we going to prepare?

If you are a business owner, you may want to consider a work-from-home set-up with your current employees. Actually, this would be an advantage on your side, minimizing your overhead expenses; and, to your employees, cutting out travel time from their schedule. However, maybe some of your employees may not have the equipment, access to the internet, or even the knowledge needed for the new scenario. It could be another issue since you cannot just lay them off. To resolve it, you may consider hiring freelancers or virtual assistants. A freelancer is also a professional doing jobs remotely; so, set-up will be instantly ready. Plus, they can be of great help in increasing your online presence, since the world wide web is their virtual office.

On the other hand, if you are an employee, you must remain competitive to avoid being laid off. Or if you are a new addition to the workforce, you should equip yourself with appropriate digital skills and consider learning it from the experts like the FVA Business Consultancy.

This invisible enemy of ours has truly been a complication for all of us. However, life must still go on. Always remember that it is not a failure to readjust our sails to fit the waters we find ourselves in.
